Never Doubt the Spring

How wonderful it is to feel the sunshine and witness the marvel of creation bursting back into life. Spring comes at just the right time to buoy us up for the race to the academic finish line for 2022.

This week the Udisciple Team caught up with Matthew MacDonald to chat about the challenges to living chastely in the different seasons of our lives.

Speaking about love, we hope some of you will join us at JPII House on Tuesday evening to learn more about the call to love Jesus exclusively in the religious life. The short film, 'For Love Alone' gives a sneak peek into the lives of religious from a whole range of communities and answers the question, 'Is God enough to satisfy the longings of the human heart?'

Looking forward to seeing you around campus,

God bless you,

The Udisciple Team

This we we caught up with David Romero. David is an international student from the Philippines who Graduated with a Masters in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Melbourne in November 2021.

How do you filter out the misconceptions about the Catholic Church that you find on social media?

First by learning where these misconceptions come from – finding out the truth behind why these misconceptions exist. Secondly, by learning how to approach and talk about difficult topics.

I think the bottom line is that I do not deny the mistakes, I try to counter them by setting a new example in how I relate with members of the society.

What do you think is the biggest reason that young Catholics leave the faith?

It would be easier for Catholics to come back to the faith if they saw that they were not struggling alone. A big misconception I had to unlearn is thinking that other people are already perfect. I held them in such high regard, it was easy for shame to overtake me. I kept my struggles and sins to myself instead of opening up and asking for help.

Exposure to the life stories of Bible characters, saints, priests, and mentors helps us to realise that these holy men and women have struggled just like me. This gives hope that returning to the faith and living it out is possible.
