Back to the Books

What a great time we had getting to meet many of you in real life on Campus last week. The Clubs and Societies were in full swing, enjoying each others' company and welcoming new members.

This E-news edition is filled with ways to help you enter into Lent 2022 and make a great start to the academic year.

Palm Sunday
For Palm Sunday we are given two Gospels: Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and the account of Jesus’ passion. The first Gospel invites us to enter into Holy Week while the second Gospel points us we are heading in Holy Week — Jesus giving himself on the cross totally for love…

Lenten Journey with the Word
Heading into Lent in 2022, we have one seeming advantage over the disciples who lived through it in real time – we know how the story ends. Yet, we often run the risk of a half-hearted Easter that celebrates the end of Lent rather than the joy of Resurrection. This year, let us choose to enter into that great joy.

Feeding Body and Soul

This week we interviewed Sister Delma who has been a chaplain to our international students for a number of years.

How do you serve the students on Campus?

Presence is very important, meeting the students where they are. On a practical level, I help them when they do research or exams. However, it is mostly about journeying with them and guiding them in their spiritual life. I always pray for the students, not just for Catholics but for all the students I meet. I have never had a negative response, as they always appreciate it and feel loved.

Tell us a little about the Second Bite initiative.

Second bite started in 2020. They prepare leftover food, pack and distribute it to students in need. I help distribute the food and converse with the students. Conversations with the students are key. The students are very grateful for the help, especially the overseas students who have no one here and have suffered financial difficulties during the lockdown.

My faith and love for Jesus is my biggest motivation. I want to enjoy everything I do, not do it as a job.
