Catechism in a Year was launched on January 1, 2023. This highly anticipated podcast follows on the wildly popular Bible in a Year podcast. Both are projects of Ascension Press, presented by Fr Mike Schmitz, Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry for the Diocese of Duluth Chaplain for the Newman Catholic Campus Ministry at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

The podcast is entirely free, with daily episodes uploaded to podcast and YouTube platforms. According to Ascension Press, in following along with the podcast, Catholics are able to:

  • Read the entire Catechism of the Catholic Church in 365 days
  • Understand the essentials of the Catholic Faith and why they matter
  • See how Church teaching is rooted in Sacred Scripture
  • Absorb over 2,000 years of Sacred Tradition
  • Encounter God’s plan of sheer goodness
  • Transform their relationship with the Church that Christ founded.

Catechism of the Catholic Church, Ascension Edition

While you can follow along with Fr Mike using the regular version of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Ascension Press has also released its own edition of the Catechism designed with a Foundations of Faith approach. While this beautifully made edition of the Catechism is not sold outside the USA, you can purchase the Catechism at a Glance visual overview of the Catechism from some local Catholic publishers. Thank you, Fr. Mike! I am in university, and I have met many people who have either weak faith or no faith at all. Catechism In a Year is helping me to know my faith better than ever, to remain strong in my faith, and to learn to reach out in love.

University Student

I never would have read the catechism on my own but this daily bite-sized podcast by Fr. Mike and Ascension has me hooked. I am learning and loving my Catholic faith all over again. What a gift!
