Fifth Sunday in Easter, Year A

Where do you feel at home? There is something about feeling so attached to a place that it is what you call your home. What makes it a home? It is a place of safety, comfort and the embrace of a community. Home is a place where happiness rests. We fight for this and pay a premium for the dream of a place to call home.

Often in life we feel out of place, like we do not belong or have a home. Jesus goes before us to heaven to prepare a place for us. In that place we will feel at home where we belong, in a place of comfort which is truly ours. How wonderful a gift this is if you are looking for a home. Jesus has prepared a place for you! Thomas asks the obvious question, “Jesus, you have prepared a nice place for us but how do we get there? How do we get home?” Jesus’ answer is “I AM, THE WAY. I am the way the truth and the life.”

How do we get to the place Jesus has prepared for us? Through friendship with Him. Jesus is not a cold app which we use to navigate to the destination. Jesus is the friend who walks with us along the way and the only one who can give us access to the door of the home. He is the head of the home who invites us in. God has prepared this place for me but am I fit to enter this room in the heavenly kingdom? Seek the friendship of Jesus Christ above all other things, and he will form you and take you to the one place where you will be totally at home, where true happiness is found, and where your life will be complete.
